In 2004, Paul Eckert founded Family Financial Centers, a firm that offers an assortment of financial services, such as check cashing, wire transfers, and tax return preparation. Outside of his work life, Paul Eckert is an active philanthropist and a longtime supporter of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) recently announced a partnership with the Mayo Clinic in an important effort to help keep children suffering from hypoplastic left heart syndrome from experiencing heart failure. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a congenital birth defect, in which the left portion of a child’s heart is critically underdeveloped compared to the rest of the organ.

Both CHOP and Mayo Clinic hope their combined efforts will cut down the time needed to research new treatments. The collaborative effort will also involve the help of five to seven other regional centers nationwide to help fund research opportunities for the development of cell-based projects.
